Hundreds of cyclists completed a 165-mile ride from Orlando to St. Petersburg this weekend to raise funds for HIV prevention and support programs in the Tampa Bay area during the Joyride Tampa HIV event.

JoyrideThe annual event, known as the Joyride, concluded at Albert Whitted Airport with organizers announcing a total of $282,431 raised.

The funds will support programs offered by local organizations such as EPIC and Empath Partners in Care, which provide HIV testing, counseling, prevention services, and housing assistance.

According to EPIC representatives, these funds are especially crucial as federal grants for HIV programs have decreased, while demand for services continues to rise.

Event organizer Bill Bone emphasized the community impact of the ride. “The Joyride isn’t only about cycling. It’s about coming together to make a real difference for people living with HIV,” Bone said.

“This ride is about more than just endurance,” said rider Juan Orellana, who participated in the 165-mile journey. “It’s about community, support, and making a real difference for people living with HIV.”

The Joyride has become a cornerstone fundraiser for Tampa Bay HIV programs, drawing cyclists from across Florida. Organizers emphasized that 100% of funds raised directly benefit local programs, ensuring that every dollar counts.
